Only a day before the final roster cuts, the Kansas City Chiefs are cutting ties with a promising quarterback for the second consecutive year.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs are releasing quarterback Bailey Zappe a day before the final roster deadline. The announcement was made on social media on Monday afternoon as teams attempt to trim their rosters ahead of the regular season.
Zappe spent training camp last year with Kansas City and was on the Chiefs’ practice squad for the first few weeks of the season. The 26-year-old was never activated by Kansas City in 2024 and later signed by the Cleveland Browns to start their Week 18 season finale. He returned to Kansas City at the start of the offseason but underperformed during preseason with 95 yards passing, two interceptions, and no touchdowns.
The former New England Patriots 2022 fourth-round NFL Draft pick has a career record of 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, completing 62.1 percent of his passes.
