According to South Korean news agencies, President Trump sought to “encourage” the skilled workers, who were on-site to help with the construction of the new electric vehicle battery plant, to remain in the U.S. to contribute to workforce development. However, despite the offer, the vast majority of the detained workers, citing shock and exhaustion from their detention, chose to return to South Korea. Only one worker reportedly decided to stay.
