Dallas Cowboys fans have our permission to call out of work tomorrow. In all seriousness, it’s going to take at least 24 hours to process what just happened at AT&T Stadium as the Cowboys walked away with a 40-37 overtime victory over the Giants in a surefire game of the year contender.
There is no shortage of players who deserve praise for their efforts, but Brandon Aubrey saved the Cowboys from utter disaster at the end of regulation. It was only fitting that Aubrey won the game in overtime after Dak Prescott marched the offense deep into Giants territory.
Speaking of QB1, he had a very relatable reaction after Aubrey saved the Cowboys from the jaws of defeat. Prescott joked that Aubrey should have his own walk-up music whenever his number is called , like an elite MLB closer, per Patrik Walker of the team’s official website.
If there was ever a debate about the best kicker in the NFL, it’s over. Only Chris Boswell of the Steelers can even hold a candle to Aubrey. On top of having the biggest leg in the league, the two-time Pro Bowler is also the most clutch kicker in football. He deserves to sit atop the mountain.
Aubrey was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day, including the 64-yard field goal in the final seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime. The kick likely would’ve been nails from 70 yards. It drew a similar reaction from pass rusher James Houston, though his assessment of Aubrey’s epic showing was a little less safe for work than Prescott’s.
“That boy got ice in his (expletive)…now I know, we cross that 50, we good,” Houston said, via Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan.
Don’t get it twisted: there is only one team that can put points on the scoreboard after crossing midfield, and they play at AT&T Stadium.
Jerry Jones might be busy announcing the Jadeveon Clowney signing, but he shouldn’t let Aubrey leave the stadium without locking him into a contract extension. Just like Aubrey deserves his own walk-up music, it’s time Jones made him the highest-paid kicker in football. We are witnessing an all-time great stamp his legacy in real time.
