SHOCKING NEWS: Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Trouble as $90 Million Star Suffers Horrific Injury, Threatening 2025 Season. This shock not only left fans speechless but also raised big questions about the Buccaneers’ competitive ambitions in the 2025 NFL season. With the absence of their top “explosive” player, Tampa Bay faces the risk of losing their tactical advantage,…

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got some crushing injury news in the first half of their Week 2 road game against the Houston Texans, with $90 million right offensive tackle Luke Goedeke knocked out of the game with a foot injury.

Goedeke went to the sideline midway through the second quarter and talked with trainers before appearing to grimace in pain as he tried to stand and put pressure on his left foot.

“Buccaneers T Luke Goedeke is OUT for the remainder of today’s game (foot),” Buccaneers Communications wrote on its official X account on September 15.

“Tampa’s OL was already a cluster before Luke Goedeke went out,” The Athletic’s Dave Helman wrote on his official X account. “Thriving in this environment, against this front?? Mighty impressive coaching & execution by the Bucs.”

The Buccaneers decided to play Goedeke against the Texans on Monday Night Football despite missing most of the week of practice leading up to the game with a foot injury.

From Buccaneers.com before kickoff: “Luke Goedeke, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ starting right tackle, missed most of the week of practice and had to pass a pregame assessment by the team’s trainers but he is going to suit up on Monday night against the Houston Texans. Goedeke had sustained a foot injury in the Buccaneers’ season-opening win at Atlanta but his availability prevents further shuffling of the team’s offensive line.”

The Buccaneers were already working with a patchwork offensive line through the first 2 weeks of the regular season.

To begin with, 3-time NFL All-Pro left offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs has been out with a knee injury and second year offensive lineman and 2024 first round pick Graham Barton has been starting in his place.

Barton, who gave up a sack to Danielle Hunter in the first half, started 16 games at center for the Buccaneers as a rookie in 2024. Ben Bredeson, who normally starts at guard, has been playing in Barton’s place while Wirfs is out.

Veteran Charlie Heck came in to replace Goedeke and threw a key block on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield to rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka for a 14-10 lead.

Goedeke landed the first major payday of his career just days before the start of the regular season.

“The #Bucs have agreed to terms with their standout OT Luke Goedeke, as he gets a 4-year, $90M deal — $22.5M APY — that includes $50M guaranteed,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on his official X account on September 2. “Tampa Bay locks up another key O-lineman.”

Goedeke’s deal made him the third highest paid right offensive tackle in the NFL behind Detroit’s Penei Sewell ($28.1 million APY) and Philadelphia’s Lane Johnson ($25 million APY).

The Buccaneers signed Wirfs to the largest contract for an offensive lineman in NFL history before the 2024 season with a 5-year, $140.6 million extension.

“Breaking: The #Bucs and RT Luke Goedeke have agreed to a 4-year, extension, per multiple sources,” NFL reporter Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account. “The former 2nd-round pick has become a key piece on Tampa Bay’s offensive line, and now gets a well-earned payday.”
