The Kansas City Chiefs got some good news ahead of their bye week, with reports that rookie LT Josh Simmons had rejoined the team after missing the past four weeks for personal family reasons.

“We’re expecting everybody back, Josh (Simmons), included,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said on Monday.

While Reid would confirm that Simmons was back with the team, what he wouldn’t confirm about the situation stifled the excitement surrounding the rookie’s return to action. Simmons had been the team’s starter for the first five weeks of the 2025 NFL season, but will he still have the starting job now that he’s returned?

Asked about the reintegration plan for Simmons after missing the last four weeks, Chiefs HC Andy Reid seems to be taking the cautious approach. He’s not committing to Simmons as the starting left tackle yet, and given his tendency toward gamesmanship, fans shouldn’t expect him to reveal his plans at the position before the Week 11 matchup with the Broncos.

“I think what we’ll do is see where we’re at here,” Reid said. “We know we’ve got a good player (Jaylon Moore) in there now (and) we know what Josh (Simmons) is capable of and all of that. So we’ll just see where we’re at when they get back.”

If they do go with Moore over Simmons in Denver this week, it might be a matter of rust for the rookie. It also might be because Moore has earned the trust of the Chiefs’ coaching staff with the job he’s done over the past four weeks.

“Jaylon’s (Moore) done a nice job for us,” Reid said of Moore. “Just asking him to jump in after the season has been going for a couple of months here, that’s a tough ask, especially against the D-Lines we’re playing. He’s done a respectable job.”

Asked about whether Simmons was in football-playing shape or attended any workouts during the bye week, Chiefs HC Andy Reid declined to provide much detail.

“I know he has been working out for sure,” Reid said.

As for how Simmons’ teammates will react to his return, Reid expects them to welcome him back with open arms. He feels the past will stay in the past and that teammates will look to support Simmons in any way that they can, both on and off the field.

“Players are always concerned about other players’ well-being, that’s first of all,” Reid said. “But on the other hand, they also move forward, and they don’t necessarily look back. They giddy up and go on what’s there today, and let’s go, and they go 100 miles an hour with that. I think it’s a blend of things that they’re not dwelling on that, but they want to make sure he’s okay as a human being.”
