Seahawks Reach Verbal Agreement with $85 Million Left Tackle to Solve Sam Darnold’s Blind Side Protection Issues-quanngo

Seattle, Washington – January 2026

The Seattle Seahawks have taken a future-defining step by reaching a verbal agreement with left tackle Rasheed Walker on a contract worth $85 million, according to league sources. The move makes Seattle’s top offseason priority unmistakably clear: strengthening the offensive line to protect quarterback Sam Darnold and finally putting an end to the issues that plagued the unit throughout the 2025 season.

Last season, the cracks along the Seahawks’ offensive line repeatedly put Darnold in vulnerable positions. Constant pressure off the blind side disrupted offensive rhythm, made deep-developing concepts far riskier, and forced the entire system into a reactive mode rather than one of control. While Darnold showed flashes of improvement late in the year, the offensive line remained a structural weakness that limited the team’s ceiling.

Walker, 26, emerged as one of the most reliable left tackles available on the market. With ideal size, long arms, and steadily refined pass-protection technique, he has proven capable of holding his ground against elite NFL pass rushers. More importantly, he brings consistency — something Seattle has sorely lacked on the left side for several seasons.

Head coach Mike Macdonald did not shy away from his firm stance on the decision.

“People talk a lot about pressure on the quarterback, but what they don’t understand is the feeling of taking every snap wondering whether you’re truly protected. We can’t keep asking Sam to play confident and fearless while allowing him to be constantly threatened from his blind side. This decision isn’t just about signing a left tackle — it’s a statement that Seattle is done gambling with its future.”

The $85 million commitment underscores how central Walker is to Seattle’s offensive rebuild. This is not a splashy signing for headlines, but a calculated investment designed to finally evaluate Darnold’s true ceiling within a stable, functional environment.

With Walker anchoring the left side, the Seahawks expect to significantly expand their offensive playbook. Darnold should benefit from cleaner pockets and more time to operate, allowing the offense to lean into timing- and rhythm-based concepts rather than constantly reacting to pressure.

The agreement now awaits only a routine medical examination before becoming official. Once finalized, Rasheed Walker will represent more than just a new addition to the Seahawks’ roster — he will symbolize a clear organizational commitment: protect the quarterback, restore offensive identity, and enter the 2026 season with a far stronger foundation than in years past.
