Recent Kansas City Chiefs cut, Justyn Ross, resurfaced in the news on Monday, July 28, as the AFC rival Buffalo Bills brought the wide receiver to their training camp for a workout.

NFL insider Ari Meirov reported the Bills’ connection to Ross on X, after it showed up on the NFL transaction log. Stating: “Former Clemson standout WR Justyn Ross worked out for the Bills today.”

According to KPRC 2 NFL insider Aaron Wilson, Buffalo also worked out wide receivers Deon Cain and Willie Snead, along with Ross. Wilson reported that they chose to sign Cain.

This was also confirmed by Buffalo News reporter Lance Lysowski, who informed: “The Bills brought back former Clemson receiver Deon Cain, who played the UFL season for the Birmingham Stallions.”

So, although the Bills took a look at the former Chiefs wideout, there’s no reason to believe they will sign him at this time. Of course, Buffalo did at least check in on Ross, so it’s safe to say that he’s at least on the AFC rival’s radar going forward.

Ross requested his release from Kansas City on July 16, and the Chiefs granted his request. The former KC fan favorite initially passed through waivers without being claimed. He is now free to sign with any interested suitor of his choosing.

Pretty much since he first signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent, Ross had a ton of hype tracing back to his freshman year at Clemson — before all of his injuries.

Unfortunately, he never lived up to those high expectations, recording just 6 catches for 53 yards over 12 regular season appearances and 2 playoff outings. And his disappointing production wasn’t due to a lack of opportunities.

The Chiefs gave Ross every chance to realize his true potential. But he often looked like he had lots of trouble picking up the playbook and remembering where he was supposed to be.

On top of that, Ross only achieved a career catch rate of 54.5% when targeted as a member of KC.

The athleticism is still there for Ross, but something else is missing in his game after all the collegiate injuries. The Chiefs seemed willing to hold onto the youngster on the practice squad for as long as they could, but he opted for a change of scenery instead.
