BREAKING: Chiefs’ $25 million starter gives surprise speech at White House on holiday.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made a quick trip to the White House on his off day.

The Kansas City Chiefs were off on July 31, with no training camp practice scheduled, and kicker Harrison Butker used that free time to visit the White House as a guest of President Donald Trump.

Butker even gave a brief speech alongside the President, which KSHB 41 sports anchor and reporter McKenzie Nelson shared on X.

“Chiefs’ Harrison Butker at the White House as President Trump signs an executive order expanding on his council on sports, fitness and nutrition, including by reviving the Presidential Fitness Test in public schools,” Nelson stated.

“Obviously, very excited to be here,” Butker began, after taking the podium.

Continuing: “Thank you, Mr. President, for allowing me to serve on the council. I’m just excited to do my part to help make America healthy again. To help our youth be healthy and thrive, and grow up, and be great citizens of this country. And be great family members, and contribute to this great country.”

Butker concluded that “I think you have to be strong in mind, in body, and soul,” thanking President Trump once again.

Per a press release from The White House, “today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order revitalizing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, and reestablishing the Presidential Fitness Test.”

This Order aims to develop “bold and innovative fitness goals for young Americans,” create “school-based programs that reward excellence in physical education,” and ensure “American youth will have opportunities at the global, national, State, and local levels that emphasize the importance of an active lifestyle, good nutrition, American sports, and military readiness,” while also partnering with professional athletes, sports organizations, and influential figures.

Furthermore, the Order aims to “maintain a strong and vital America” and make America “active again.”

Butker signed a four-year, $25.6 million extension in 2024, and he’s been earning every penny of it at Chiefs training camp this summer.

Chiefs Digest beat reporter Matt Derrick has a running joke/competition every summer where he tries to beat the first KC player to the practice field at St. Joe’s. In 2025, Butker has gone undefeated, according to Derrick, beating him and all of his teammates to work every day.

“I have never seen in my years at training camp a player arrive as early as often as Harrison Butker is this year,” Derrick admitted on July 28. Adding: “I may have to call No Mas pretty soon. 0-6 #MattVsChiefs.”

Two days later, on July 30, Derrick posted: “An otherwise empty football field other than Harrison Butker. He has made a mockery of #MattVsChiefs for first arrival. I fall to 0-8. And I’m certain Butker made this field goal too. Look at the way he walked away to the next kick. He knew it was good.”

Clearly, Butker is setting a good example on the football field this summer, as most $25 million veterans don’t show up this early, this often.

The Chiefs will return to training camp practice on Friday, August 1. And it’s expected to be another full day in pads.

There has been a lot to like about the Chiefs this summer, but the injury list has grown in recent days, so it will be interesting to see if anyone returns on Friday.

Perhaps, with Butker flying back from Washington, D.C., Derrick will beat him to practice for the first time this summer.
