During Wednesday’s training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs fullback Carson Steele shared his mindset heading into his sophomore season and growing in the position.
“I would say work a lot more in my fullback role, special teams, but as well as keeping the running back side of me,” said Steele, “I kind of talked about it last year, being a Swiss Army knife, kind of doing everything, but kind of taking that to the next step this year, of course, a lot of these guys get ready for the first preseason game.”
The former UCLA Bruins standout made the most of his invite opportunity to camp in 2024 after going undrafted and immediately leaving an impression on his teammates and coaching staff, earning a spot on the team.
“I wouldn’t say easier. I would say the jitters are a little bit down this year.” said Steele, “Last year, you’re coming into a football team who just won, Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, are in the same huddle as you working with you, being able to calm down a little bit, listen to the whole play this year.”
Last season, Steele ran for 183 yards on 56 carries, splitting time as the lead running back and fullback. He had fumbling issues to start the year, and after the signing of veteran Kareem Hunt, he saw his snaps limited for the rest of the campaign.
