BREAKING NEWS FROM KANSAS CITY: Chiefs unexpectedly found a “golden solution” for Matt Nagy’s possible departure — A move that made the entire NFL pay attention!

The Kansas City Chiefs fan base has had a very well chronicled up-and-down relationship with offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. This season’s underwhelming record could serve as the catalyst to finally turn the page on the OC. Even with head coach Andy Reid calling the plays, it is easy to see the regression at the position since Nagy was brought in, which opens the door to making a change with the perfect name hitting the market in the season’s first firing.

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has been fired, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. This opens the door to the Chiefs bringing in Daboll as the perfect Nagy replacement if the team wants a staff shake-up after the season. Although the ex-Giants HC failed in the leadership role, there is a solid track record as an OC.

Chiefs Suddenly Gifted a Solution to Matt Nagy's Potential Exit

In fact, one could argue that the time spent in the New York dysfunction could only benefit Daboll in his next coaching role.

Brian Daboll’s Giants Demise Serves as Clear Chiefs Opportunity

Daboll spent time in Kansas City as the offensive coordinator all the way back in the 2012 season. Before landing a head coaching job, the veteran coach spent time under Nick Saban at Alabama and worked as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator, helping write Josh Allen’s breakout season. With this in mind, there is every reason to want to bring this experience into head coach Andy Reid’s offense.

Daboll has extensive coaching experience that dates back to the early Tom Brady Patriots. Opting to bring this experience in is obviously a bonus for a coach who is going to be looking for a high upside landing spot after failing in his chance as a head coach.

NFL Rumors: Chiefs OC Matt Nagy 'Should Be in the Mix' for HC Job in Offseason

Daboll needs a team that is going to rebuild his reputation and help him potentially earn a second chance in a head coaching role. No franchise is better suited to this description than the Chiefs. You’re solving two problems as well: getting rid of a problem (Nagy) while simultaneously taking a step forward with Daboll’s offensive experience and creativity.

It doesn’t hurt either that Daboll can hand the Chiefs further insight on Allen’s Bills and help continue to keep the Chiefs dominant against their wishful rival. There simply is no downside to signing the former head coach for a role he’s previously thrived in.

For now, the Chiefs would be wise to go ahead and attempt to keep tabs on Daboll with the thought of parting ways with Nagy at the end of the 2025 season. Since he was fired by the Giants, the Chiefs could already consider a consultant position for Daboll, giving them an inside edge on the potential hire without any of the risks or having to make the difficult decision on Nagy right away.

Daboll would be a great consulting option, and the Chiefs can evaluate and make sure they believe he is the upgrade he appears to be for the 2026 season. No question, the Giants’ firing serves as the Chiefs’ opportunity, and the sooner they bring in the experienced coach, the better.
