DALLAS COWBOYS CRISIS: George Pickens faces “severe” punishment from the NFL – A decision that could change the course of the entire season is very close.

Following a monster performance against the Raiders, the wide receiver’s impulsive goalpost hug, a copycat of Jameson Williams’ move, is set to hit his wallet hard as the NFL’s discipline looms.

DALLAS — In the heat of a touchdown-scoring moment, emotions can override the rulebook. That’s the expensive lesson Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens is about to learn after his celebratory hug with the goalpost during Monday night’s 33-16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Mimicking a move that got Detroit Lions’ Jameson Williams flagged just a day earlier, Pickens’ joyous leap has landed him not only with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the field but also a looming fine from the league office that could cost him nearly $15,000.

The incident occurred in the first half after Pickens, who was having a stellar game, found the end zone. In a moment of pure adrenaline, he jumped up and embraced the goalpost padding—a clear violation of the NFL’s rules against using props in celebrations.

Despite the 15-yard setback, Pickens’ performance was a key driver in the Cowboys’ much-needed win. He finished the night with a spectacular stat line: 9 receptions for 144 yards and that very touchdown, proving his immense value to the offense.

However, the league’s disciplinary process is unforgiving. Every Saturday, the NFL hands out fines for actions from the previous week’s games, and Pickens’ goalpost hug is a prime candidate. According to the NFL’s official schedule of fines, an initial unsportsmanlike conduct penalty comes with a steep price tag of $14,491.

The silver lining for Pickens and the Cowboys? The violation does not carry a risk of suspension, so he won’t miss any game time. For a player of his caliber, a one-game suspension could mean forfeiting over a million dollars in game checks.

The Cowboys, as a team, are finally trending upwards. Their convincing win propelled them up three spots to No. 20 in the NFL’s Week 12 power rankings. As analyst Eric Edholm noted, the team “turned in a good overall effort Monday after a slow start,” a positive sign as they head into the tough part of their schedule.

While the Cowboys are building momentum, George Pickens is about to receive a formal notice from the NFL. The league is expected to announce its decision on Saturday, November 22. If fined, the money will not be for nothing; it will be donated to support the Professional Athletes Foundation and the NFL Foundation, aiding former players and promoting safety in youth sports. For Pickens, it’s a costly reminder that in the NFL, even moments of pure joy come with a price tag.
