Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons didn’t hold back after a 40-40 tie with his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, on Sunday.

Dallas sent Parsons to Green Bay via a trade on Aug. 28 in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two future first-round picks. A former first-round pick of the Cowboys, Parsons aired his disappointment in how owner Jerry Jones handled the trade.

“The emotions for me, being in Dallas, went away the moment they traded me,” Parsons told reporters after the game. “When [Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst] said he was trading for me, he said, ‘Let me call [Clark] before [the news] breaks.”

“The importance for the organization in that, like I didn’t get to talk to my owner,” Parsons added. “The person that drafted me. I found out through my agent.”

Dallas took Parsons with the No. 12 pick in 2021 out of Penn State, and he became a three-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler in the past four seasons. Parsons lobbied for a bigger contract this year, after Cowboys stars Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb received major deals in 2024, but Dallas ultimately traded him.

“To me, that emotion side was pointless because the same way he called me into his office as a man, he couldn’t tell me as a man,” Parsons said about Jones regarding the trade. “That emotion side was gone; it was more of a respect factor at this point.”

Jones explained the reason for the trade of Parsons versus the Prescott deal after Sunday’s game. It came down to salary cap considerations and who the Cowboys needed on the roster long term.

“It’s very simple: Dak was indispensable, in my mind… and Micah wasn’t,” Jones told reporters after the game. “It’s just numbers, it’s that easy. And that’s not personal at all… the numbers just weren’t there with Micah.”

On Sunday, Prescott had the more impactful game numerically as he threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns on 31-40 passing, and he scored a rushing touchdown of two yards. Parsons had just three tackles and a sack, but he has been dealing with injury this season as the Packers had been limiting his snap count.

In addition, Parsons appear to injure his head on a play during the third quarter and spent time in the medical tent but returned to play. Parsons sacked Prescott during overtime, which helped prevent the Cowboys from scoring a game-winning touchdown.

“I came out for a play,” Parsons said. “The next thing I know they’re taking me to the tent. I thought it was very weird.”

“When I came up, I grabbed my back. That was just so weird. I don’t know what was going on. . . . That was real strange,” he added.

Moreover, Parsons didn’t like how things turned out on the scoreboard with a tie. The Packers defense gave up 436 yards of total offense by the Cowboys.

“I’m not even going to lie, I’m pissed off,” Parsons said. “I’m very disappointed, just overall how we performed.”
