It’s no secret that the tight end position is a difficult one to play. That’s long been the case, but the modern NFL asks those players to do more than just block or catch. It’s a demanding job, albeit one that’s seen some stars blossom this century.

Kansas City Chiefs pillar Travis Kelce is one of those players. For yet another summer, the future Hall of Fame man partnered with George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers and former Carolina Panthers standout Greg Olsen to present Tight End University. The camp-style series brought tight ends from near and far together over a few days, with Kelce having a chance to share some wisdom with his peers.

To say he managed to do so would be hitting the nail right on the head. On a July 2 edition of his famous “New Heights” podcast alongside his brother Jason, Kelce explained why TEU assisted in making everyone better.

Kelce noted that because tight ends get asked to do just about everything, it makes them selfless by nature. That quality certainly shined through at this year’s Tight End University event. Despite everyone technically being competitors, there was no gatekeeping of tricks of the trade.

“Everybody’s there to just have a good time,” Kelce said. “Nobody’s there thinking too good of themselves or like they don’t want to share their secrets. Everyone’s here to help out each other and make sure you’re spreading the word on how you got to where you are. Sometimes, it’s just hearing somebody’s story and hearing how they even got into the tight end position, you know? It was awesome, man. Just another amazing year.”

The video above, which shows Kelce giving tips on route running, is a prime example. The trio of Kelce, Kittle and Olsen wants talents like Las Vegas Raiders second-year man Brock Bowers, who recently turned in a rookie campaign for the ages, to continue growing. There’s a genuine desire on behalf of the leaders to help everyone fine-tune things along the way.
