This unexpected incident not only left fans on the edge of their seats, but also threatened to directly affect the offensive strength of both teams. While the Cowboys expected Lamb to continue to explode to maintain their winning streak, the Bears placed their faith in Pickens as their main weapon.

The next Dallas Cowboys’ opponent is also dealing with injury news ahead of Week 3 that could prove costly.

You can never wish for an injury in the NFL but Dallas Cowboys wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are surely chomping at the bit following the latest unfortunate news surrounding their upcoming rival, the Chicago Bears.

According to reports, top cornerback Jaylon Johnson is out “indefinitely” after Chicago’s coaching staff gambled on an early return.

Losing Johnson is a tough blow for the Bears and one that leaves them vulnerable before facing one of the best wide receiver duos in the league next Sunday when they take on the Cowboys. Chicago is expected to start former Cowboys CB Nahshon Wright and Tyrique Stevenson in his place. Starting nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon has missed the first two games of the season and will likely be questionable at the end of the week.

It’s a dangerous situation for the Bears as Dallas appears to be hitting on all cylinders on offense. Though they likely expected an easier weekend than they got in a 40-37 overtime win, the offense more than did its part with 478 yards of total offense.

In large part, that was thanks to the wide receivers.

The Cowboys are embracing their offensive identity and capitalizing on the talent of their WR duo. Pickens showed up big for the first time wearing The Star on his helmet, mostly with big plays from isolated formations. He had a big nine-yard conversion in the same drive in which he later scored a go-ahead touchdown with under a minute left in the fourth quarter.

In overtime, he made a 27-yard grab to get the Cowboys to Giants’ territory.

“They’re going to have to double (Pickens), and that’s your troubles right there,” Dak Prescott said postgame. “You want to double him, or do you want to double CeeDee?”

Speaking of Lamb, he dealt damage from outside the numbers and the slot. His versatility should pay off against a hurt Bears secondary.

With all that being said, the Cowboys will need to keep Dak cleaner in the pocket. Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele struggled against the Giants’ edge rusher
